Bottom line is that I guess I still do believe in God. Not in a ‘I’m certain of it’ kind of way but my soul still longs for it to be true (you know, like a thirsty deer kinda thing). I still do believe in the good news of grace, forgiveness and the renewal of all things. Not in a 4 spiritual laws, you’re in or you’re out kind of way but in a simple “ya, somethings off in our humanity and as amazing as our increasing scientific knowledge might be, it doesn’t answer everything” kind of way. I don’t have the headspace to complicate it more than that.
I’m certainly not perfect, you’re not perfect and your religious leader sure as hell ain’t perfect either. The more they can be free to be imperfect, the better leaders they will be.
Authenticity is simply being true. You are not playing a role and you are not wearing masks. There are many reasons why leaders might hold back on telling the whole truth, being vulnerable and authentic.
There is a dance going on and pastors and church leaders need to be on the dance floor along with everyone else. Watching others dance from the sideline is not healthy. You start to get rusty and stiff and critical of the way others dance.
